Oladayo Emmanuel Asks GOD To Take Charge In New Single
I would describe myself as someone who GOD has been careful with and is willing to display his mercies and kindness through is the answer Oladayo gave when this reporter asked him to give a quick description of himself.
Oladayo Emmanuel
And indeed, going by the wave of acceptance of his hit single Gbakoso, that description might be what was going through his mind during this interview. Oladayo Emmanuel is a man of many parts which he has excelled despite what he describes as serious challenges in life. He told this reporter that his love for GOD was honed at the Redeemed Christian Church of GOD, the city of refuge parish presently at Ebinpejo Street, Pedro Lagos. This reporter suggested that many gospel artistes in recent times have tried to attach themselves with RCCG in order to gain acceptance, and he wanted to know if Emmanuel was still in RCCG.
"Are you doubting me? Moreover, I only responded to your question of how I started out. I was in what is called the junior church and the teacher encouraged us to be in different groups like drama, choir, ushering etc. That teacher (Kingsley Momoh) is still alive today and he can testify to this". He further pointed out that another gospel act, Oleesah was also a co-member at the same church in those days. He said the activities in those days must have helped him boost his innate ability in music because when he got transferred to another parish of RCCG, he decided to fully express himself musically.
In this interview with PraiseFm Naija, Oladayo allows you into more personal information about himself, his music and more.
EXCERPTS
You said the recording of Gbakoso wasn't really planned despite your love for music.
Yes, that's true. I thought it may take some time before I would hit the studio but for the strong encouragement of Oleesa. Let me make you laugh a little. Would you believe that even after recording Gbakoso, it was in my phone and I was just selfishly enjoying it alone because I didn't understand that GOD wanted the song for the world to be blessed by it. The song was gotten during a reharsal at my church, RCCG Daystar youth church sometime in 2015.
Now that you have an idea of what the song has come to do, how do you feel?
When I look back now, I realize that the song was totally the work of the holy spirit. I only made myself available when he urged. Now, I am working hard on follow up works and ready for the Holy Spirit to use me like never before.
What are the difference you have experienced since Gbakoso hit the airwaves?
I could easily tell you how many friends I had on facebook before the release of Gbakoso. Now I have nearly 5000 friends! The number isn't really the issue. The issue is that GOD has used this song to touch so many lives in a short period of time.
Nigeria gospel that may have influence him
Definitely, Pastor Nathaniel Bassey and Pastor Chingtok Ishaku. I consider their ministry as amazing. I would also like to add my mother who encouraged me to do music because she was the first to see what others haven't even perceived. I miss her so much more now.
How would you describe the gospel music scene in Nigeria?
It is growing and more persons are seeing that it is a also a viable industry as well as a ministry. However, I know it could be better if gospel ministers stay true to their callings and ensuring that the songs they churn to the world are from the deep place of the Holy Spirit.
Do you think gospel music can credibly put food on the table of artistes?
Well, its a yes and a no from my point of view right now because for me, it isn't money that propelled me into gospel music making. However, if we can have full time pastors and they are surviving and living well with great exploits, I believe that the gospel ministers that also do same and even more. However, my stand is Stay true to your calling and allow GOD handle the rest".
